On an outing to the lily farm, I photographed these red beauties peeking out from their long grassy leaves. I was anxious to start this quilt, but had a book deadline to meet. I stared at the picture for months. When the book was almost done, I had some free time, ran to the studio, and created this quilt in one week. Truly obsessed, I worked about nine hours a day and barely stopped to eat!

This piece is an embellished symmetrical flower shape. Each part of this lavish flowering bloom was defined with texture, shape, or volume. I attached beads for sparkle, yarns for a fuzzy touch, and long threads for volume…all for our viewing pleasure.

The beauty and behavior of the natural world inspires my art. This piece captures the flight and fancy of a spring morning romp at the bath. Kitty waits patiently to become part of the action.

The sun rises over the cold mountain with its wintry evergreens to shine upon those vivid harbingers of spring—the poppies. The figure stands eager and ready to be rejuvenated by the all-encompassing explosion of life. Rejoice…a new birth—a new life—a celebration.

Here in the rocky high desert of New Mexico, every drop of rain is precious to us. New life bursts out in the spring with a little moisture.

Watching egrets is a treasured part of my morning walks. I wanted to capture their grace and lightness, as well as the rich texture of their surroundings.

In the spring of 2008, I visited my friend Cheryl’s farm to meet her new arrivals. This little kid, named Tinker, stole my heart. He was a natural ham for my camera. I knew I needed to turn him into a quilt when I caught this expression on his face.

There’s nothing like the first leaves of spring that decorate my garden!
