Statement from IQA President Charlotte Warr Andersen on the elimination of eligibility for “work for hire” quilts in the IQA Judged Show
“The IQA Judged Show is a test of the art and craftsmanship of the quiltmakers, not their ability to hire the most proficient professional to do it for them. We have not excluded any professional longarm quilters from the show.
We have required them to follow the rules of all the other contestants: two entries per quilter, you must belong to IQA, and put your name on the entry.
The only categories among the multitude we have that longarm quilters are restricted from entering are the Handmade category and the Merit Quilting—Hand category.
We have freed them from being restricted to the Two Person category, which has been eliminated. This should be a great help for them and we expect we will see more longarm winners in the future.”
